Idea Books Critical Conversations in a Limo: Melbourne & San Francisco
A Project by Holly Crawford

COVER-4 Critical Conversation in a Limo is a moment in art, a movable salon and an experimental space. The project assembled strangers, artists, curators and critics together to sip champagne, gossip, and talk about contemporary art in a traveling “white box.” What unfolds is an insightful and often playful take on the art world. Previously performed in New York, this informative new book transcribes the nervous laughter, and unexpected conversations from the project’s Melbourne (2007) and San Francisco (2008) happenings. Participants include: Larry Rinder, Kenneth Baker, Allegra Fortunati, Zefrey Throwell, Alexie
Glass, Charles Green, Naomi Cass, Robyn McKenzie, Jeff Khan, Ash
Crawford, and many more.

A Project by Holly Crawford

Documentation of the project Outsourced Critics & Critical Conversations in a Limo by Holly Crawford sources the art world in fun and humorous ways. The textual counterpoint were the Conversations in the Limo project in which strangers, art world heavy hitters and art appreciators were brought together for an hour, given champagne and told to talk about art and art fairs. Participants include Orlan, Zugazagoita, Closky, Holly Block, Lütticken, Kortun, Anne Barlow, Pablo Helguero, Berta Sichel and many more.

Curated by Holly Crawford

The catalog of a group exhibition of artists who have engaged with gangs in different ways. This art is the flip side of Norman Rockwell’s middle-class American paintings of Thanksgiving gatherings or getting immunized, a shot, from the doctor to protect you from unseen danger. This is a different kind of danger: the danger of poverty, lack of work and opportunity.
The work reflects and documents the violence and death that surround the lives of the gang members and the victims.

Doug Harvey (Ed.)

On the brink between paranoid conspiracy theory and avant-garde literature, LA based critic, curator, and artist Doug Harvey defies logic and redefines art historical thinking in his captured text and images. ‘patacritical Interrogation Techniques is the implementation of the principles of French playwright Alfred Jarry’s science of ‘pataphysics,’ in which texts are subject to extreme stress in order to display their true significance.  Key documents in ‘patacritical research are reprinted in the text and original artifacts generated from new research are published for the first time! Contributors include Clayton Eshleman, Peter Frank, Doug Harvey, John Higham, and more.
